Use this selector to verify your DKIM configuration for Mandrill (Mailchimp Transactional).

Setup Steps

  1. 1In Mandrill, go to Settings > Domains and add your domain
  2. 2Verify that the domain is yours: click View details under the domain and publish the mandrill_verify TXT record it shows
  3. 3DKIM: add two CNAME records, mte1._domainkey pointing to dkim1.mandrillapp.com and mte2._domainkey pointing to dkim2.mandrillapp.com
  4. 4DMARC: publish a record at _dmarc. Mandrill requires one, and v=DMARC1; p=none is enough to start
  5. 5Click "Test DNS Settings" and wait for the green checkmarks

Last step: add a rua address to your DMARC record. With it, you get a daily report of every message sent as your domain, including the ones from Mandrill (Mailchimp Transactional).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need include:spf.mandrillapp.com in my SPF record?

Mailchimp's current setup only asks for DKIM and DMARC. By default Mandrill uses its own domain as return path, so SPF passes for mandrillapp.com, not for yours, and DMARC passes through DKIM. Adding the include does no harm, but it does not align SPF unless you set up a custom return-path domain.

Can I send through Mandrill before adding DMARC?

No. Mandrill asks for a DMARC record and a DKIM record, and a verified domain, before you can send from it. A DMARC record with p=none is enough to start.
